Glycolysis

  • All living cells must have a continuous supply of energy to carry out their activities. This energy comes from nutrients such as glucose.

  • All cells also need some way to release this energy, which is stored in the chemical bonds of the nutrient compounds.

  • Metabolism is the body’s way of transforming matter and energy through chemical reactions.

  • Glycolysis is the first step in the metabolic pathway by which glucose is broken down and energy is released. It is one of the most universal metabolic pathways known.
