Genes & Chromosomes

  • For almost 100 years, scientists have known that genes are located on chromosomes, and that chromosomes are passed from parents to offspring. In Mendel's experiments, the genes assorted independently in meiosis, however this isn't always the case. Also, the inheritance of genes on the X chromosome is different in males and females.

  • In this Lesson, we'll look at how genes on the X chromosome are inherited in males and females.

  • We'll also look at genes that don't assort independently in meiosis and how this affects the offspring ratios.

  • Finally, we'll look at several types of chromosome abnormalities.
