Animal Form and Function

• Organisms are made up of different levels of structural organization.

• The different cell types that make up an organism are grouped into masses of cells called tissues. The major tissues of vertebrate animals include epithelia, connective tissue, nervous tissue, bone, and cartilage.

• Tissues are assembled into organs, and organs work together as organ systems. Organ systems undergo regulation and control to coordinate their functions.

• In this Lesson, we’ll look at the tissues, organs, and organ systems of the human body. We’ll also look at the regulation and control of organ systems by studying homeostasis, using the maintenance of body temperature and salt balance as examples.
